At Dallington School, we love to see our values come to life in meaningful ways, and this term, we have an especially proud moment to celebrate! One of our Year 4 children recently took the initiative to nominate their teacher, Harriet, for Teacher of the Week in The Week Junior UK. This heartfelt gesture was successful, and the recognition in print has brought excitement and joy to our entire school community.
Alongside our team of teachers, Harriet, known for her dedication and creativity in the classroom, has inspired her class to explore, question, and engage deeply with their learning. Seeing one of her children step forward to celebrate her publicly has been incredibly meaningful to her. It’s also a testament to Dallington’s core values of relationships, empathy and individuality.
As a school that promotes a progressive, values-driven approach to independent education, Dallington encourages students to take ownership of their ideas and actions and celebrates student voices. In this case, our Year 4 child demonstrated these values in full force—taking a step beyond the classroom to honour Harriet’s positive impact. This nomination affirms Harriet’s dedication as an educator and highlights the supportive, collaborative environment that Dallington strives to foster.
Moments like these show the true power of gratitude and acknowledgement within our community. When students feel empowered to express appreciation, it strengthens the bond between teachers and students, deepening the learning experience and creating an environment where everyone feels valued.
Seeing the nomination in print was a thrill for everyone, and it’s certainly a moment that Harriet—and the rest of us—will cherish. We’re proud of our children when they step forward and show such kindness, and we’re honoured to have Harriet, who embodies the spirit of Dallington, as part of our teaching team.
Congratulations to Harriet, and thank you to our Year 4 child for reminding us of the joy and significance of appreciating those who guide us on our educational journeys.
