At Dallington School, equality is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful and equitable school community where every child, staff member and family is valued and supported.

Our Commitment

We are guided by the Equality Act 2010, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, and the Human Rights Act 1998.

We are committed to:

  • Eliminating discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Advancing equality of opportunity for all
  • Fostering good relations between different groups within our school community

Protected Characteristics

We oppose discrimination on the basis of the following protected characteristics:

For children:

  • Sex
  • Race
  • Disability
  • Religion or belief (including lack of religion or belief)
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender reassignment
  • Pregnancy and maternity

For staff and other adults: In addition to the above, we also protect against discrimination on the basis of age, and marriage and civil partnership.

Equality and Our Core Values

Our commitment to equality is embedded in our core values:

Relationships: We value relationships with all of our stakeholders equally, regardless of background or identity. We develop a sense of belonging and inclusion by celebrating our differences.

Empathy: We promote empathy and understanding to nurture the positive and inclusive development of our children and staff.

Creativity: We ensure every child has equal opportunity to express their creativity and learn about diverse perspectives.

Individuality: We create a respectful environment that promotes individuality and challenges stereotypes.

Play: We encourage the development of tolerance and understanding through play.

Enjoy the journey: Our goal is for all of our stakeholders to value their own worth and enjoy their journey here with us at Dallington, no matter who they are.

How We Promote Equality

In our curriculum: We select diverse texts, teach about different cultures and religions, celebrate diversity through events, and ensure all protected characteristics are represented positively.

In school life: All children have equal access to School Council, clubs, trips, and activities. We make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled children can participate fully.

In our response to discrimination: We take all incidents of discrimination, harassment and bullying seriously. All incidents are recorded, investigated, and used to inform our curriculum and training.

For disabled children: We make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled children can access education and school life. Our Accessibility Plan sets out how we increase access in three key areas: curriculum, physical environment, and information.

In recruitment: We are an equal opportunities employer. We advertise openly, use objective criteria, and make reasonable adjustments for disabled candidates.

Through staff training: All staff receive training on equality and diversity to ensure they can promote equality and challenge discrimination.

Monitoring and Accountability

We monitor equality data across admissions, attendance, attainment, behaviour, and bullying incidents to identify any patterns of inequality. This data is reviewed annually by our Senior Leadership Team and Board of Governors, and action plans are put in place to address any issues.
