Our Dallington School summer show, A Midsummer’s Macbeth, was an inspiring mix of acting and singing prompted by our Year 5 & 6 children reflecting on the ideas and implications of fate, prophecy, and their relationship with the future through the lens of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
A Twist on Shakespeare’s Classic
In our unique adaptation devised by the children in their drama lessons, Macbeth is in crisis: the Weird Sisters have impressed him with their witchery-pokery and have told him he will become King. He is feeling overwhelmed by their prophecy, unable to relax and be himself. This intriguing premise allowed our students to delve deep into the themes of destiny and free will, showcasing their acting range and thoughtful interpretations.
A Community Effort
In true Dallington School style, the show was a testament to our wonderfully supportive community. We were delighted to feature contributions from our talented parent musicians: Jeff, Amy, Sam, and Maciej. Their musical prowess added an extra layer of magic to the musical interludes throughout the performance! Especially the rousing encore of our Dallington School song!
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you to everyone who made the event such a success! From the dedicated teachers who guided our students to the parents who supported them behind the scenes, and to our brilliant Year 5 & 6 children who brought A Midsummer’s Macbeth to life alongside the musical interludes performed by all our classes. Their hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm shone brightly on stage, making this summer show an unforgettable celebration of our strong community spirit and love for the arts.
We also thank Father David for hosting us in the beautiful St. Clement’s church, and for his warm, generous, and patient spirit.
